Water Retention Reservoirs
Industrial scale water retention ponds for farms, golf courses etc.
Our modular water storage reservoirs can be built within days and are the perfect way to store large volumes of water out of sunlight, thus minimizing evaporation and avoiding the maintenance associated with traditional ponds and reservoirs. By utilizing new methods and equipment which you won’t see elsewhere, our reservoirs are easier to maintain and stay clean for longer. Here are a few key benefits:
- Most or all water is below a layer of pebbles, minimizing evaporation
- Our reservoirs have vastly lower maintenance than traditional ponds and lakes
- they can be large or as small as you wish
- they are the best method of long term fresh water collection and storage
Here are the steps we take when building a reservoir:
- We dig a large rectangular pit, with the depth varying depending on how much water you plan to store.
- We lay out underlay, covering the entirety of the pit, then repeat this with liner, preventing water from escaping.
- We then fill the hole with aqua blocks – solid blocks used to maintain the structural integrity of the reservoir – these can also be walked on. The aqua blocks hold over 6 gallons of water per cubic foot, over three times more than if you used gravel or stones!
- While adding the Aqua blocks, we place in the system 1 or more ‘centipedes’. These are large access vaults, through which the rainwater can be extracted. Once every few years, we can also clean the system through the centipedes by stirring up sediment at the bottom and then draining the dirty water from it, allowing for clean, fresh rainwater to refill the reservoir.
- We finally dress the top level of aqua blocks with a layer of overlay to keep the water as clean as possible and finally add a thin layer of gravel, to catch leaves and large solids.
Our systems can hold thousands of gallons, protecting against the incoming water shortage which is on the minds of farmers across the UK.
This method is more effective than traditional reservoirs since the liner has better protection, the aqua blocks can be walked on and sediment build-up is slower due to the system being covered with a layer of gravel, helping to prevent solid matter from entering the water.
